In Vedic astrology our sages has given wonderful system of timing events using dasha systems and they have given more then 100 dasha!!
But out of all Vimshottari dasha is most popular one which is used by each and every user and astrologer and their lies concept of Mahadasha and Antardasha which are the two main workers in it.
I am very sure you hear about people talking about their running mahadasha and antardasha and what they are talking about is actually Vimshottari dasha system.
There are few astrologers who uses Jaimini Chardasha, Yogini and even Ashtakvarga to predict events in native life.
Jaimini dasha is so vast that as per as per Shri K.N Rao you can predict even when there is birth time error since here we use charakarakas and lordships are ignored.
But Vimshottari is still the most widely used.
A very important thing to tell here is that don't think Vimshottari dasha is most accurate.
In fact it can mislead you because a lot of factors comes in play here and a proper investigation need to be made where divisional charts should be added accordingly.
And most of users and Astrologers can't use division charts perfectly!! The truth is no one can.
The best way to reach a conclusion in any Horoscope is using composite analysis where at least one more dasha system should be used it could be Jaimini Chardasha or Yogini or even K.P.
Don't relay on Vimshottari dasha alone, it can be very misleading if you don't use other parameters which can be endless and confusion creating.
General Principles Of Vimshottari Mahadasha-Antardasha System
In Vimshottari Dasha we use certain years which are designated to 9 planets viz Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu & Ketu.
Though their order in Vimshottari Mahadasha system is as follows:
- Ketu.
- Venus.
- Sun.
- Moon.
- Mars.
- Rahu.
- Jupiter.
- Saturn.
- Mercury.
But these order will change as per the lord of the Nakshatra where Moon is posted at the time of birth of the native.
I will mention the whole mathematics and calculations on it later on but first of all we need to discuss the duration (years) allotted to them.
The word Vimshottari means 120 in Sanskrit and as per some authors it the total duration lived by Human when Astrology was written.
As per some texts Arjuna was 55 years old and was fairly young. In today's modern world no one lives 120 years!!
In Vimshottari Dasha system following duration is allotted to the said 9 planets:
- Ketu- 7 years.
- Venus- 20 years.
- Sun- 6 years.
- Moon- 10 years.
- Mars-7 years.
- Rahu- 18 years.
- Jupiter- 16 years.
- Saturn- 19 years.
- Mercury- 16 years.
It is interesting to see that last three planets have been allotted maximum years to them.
Now one question may arise why the order is in such way??
Why general Vimshottari mahadasha order doesn't start with Jupiter ?
Or with any other planet?
The reason why Ketu is first in order because the first Nakshatra in Astrology which is Ashwani is ruled by planet Ketu and then next one which is Kritika is ruled by Venus and so on.
You can check the table below which will give you information on Nakshatra and their lords.
When one identify the starting Vimshottari mahadasha then accordingly analysis is made.
All kind of Rajyoga are checked and one need to evaluate when they will be activated by Vimshottari mahadasha lord.
So now you would have got the idea on the duration and general order of planets in Vimshottari dasha system.
How Mahadasha Is Calculated In A Horoscope
Have you wondered why the duration of the first dasha may not be excatly the same as mentioned in texts.
For example you may see in your own Horoscope that the your first dasha was not of same duration which is alloted to it.
In my own case first dasha was of Mercury which last for 15 years from birth which is 2 years less than what is alloted to Mercury i.e 17 years.
So here it is important to know how Vimshottri dasha is calculated and in this excersice some mathematics is involved.
So here I start.
As mentioned before the Vimshottri dasha is calculated from the Moon.
So in a Horoscope we need to see where planet Moon is posted and see the degrees of it.
Let's take following birth details for this excersice:
Date Of Birth: 21-12-2020
Time Of Birth: 18:54
Place Of Birth: Delhi
You can see in the image below the degree of Moon is in sign of Virgo at 13 degrees 46 minutes and is in Nakshatra of Hasta.
Hasta is ruled by planet Moon and the here the beginning Vimshottari Mahadasha will be of Moon and next Vimshottari mahadasha will be of Mars followed by Rahu.
Now need to determine how many more degrees and minutes the Moon would have to travel to reach the end of Hasta Nakshatra.
Hasta nakshatra spans is until 23 degrees and 20 minutes of Virgo.
Each Nakshatra is 13 degrees and 20 minutes or 800 minutes in length.
Since the Moon, in our example, is located at 13 degrees and 46 minutes of Virgo the Moon had already completed 3 degrees and 46 minutes of Hasta Nakshatra.
Which means 9 degrees 34 minutes are remaining to be cover by planet Moon.
Here you will need to covert the remaining degrees of Moon into minutes which can be done via multiplying 9*60= 540 and add 34 minutes into it.
Which means remaining minutes are 574.
Now divide 574 by 800 to get the percentage of the period that remains
574 divided by 800 equals: 0.7175.
So, now we need to consider the length of the Moon period, which is always 10 years.
So, 0.7175 of the 10 years of Moon mahadasha would remain at birth.
Now multiply the duration of the planetary period by the remainder 10 multiplied by 0.7175 equals: 7.175 (years).
Next we multiply the remainder (minus the years) by 12 to get the months 12 multiplied by 0.175 equals: 2.1 (months)
Now we multiply the remainder minus the months by 30 to get the days 30 multiplied by 0.1 which is 3 days.
So the remaining Moon Vimshottari dasha period here is 7 years 2 months and 3 days.
Which Mahadasha Is Most Bad?
As such no mahadasha is generally bad or good, everything depends on Horoscope of the native.
Saturn mahadasha which is considered as evil can prove wonderful to many people.
For example Amitabh Bacchan got amazing success as soon as his Saturn mahadasha started.
Whereas as biggest benefic planet Jupiter Mahadasha can prove very evil.
In Horoscope of Mahatma Gandhi , he died in his Jupiter Mahadasha even though Jupiter dasha gave him success in his freedom movement but same time Jupiter caused a painful death.
Therefore it means that you can't relay on general results of any Vimshottari Mahadasha.
You need to judge the the Mahadasha lord and Antardasha lord and then make a conclusion on it.

How To Read Mahadasha & Its Effects
This is the main and core of the Astrology and for this we will consider planet Mars as the mahadasha lord and will apply rules on it.
First of all see what is the rising ascendant here and based on that Vimshottari Mahadasha lord will have a intent which can be benefic or malefic in nature.
This is called as concept of functional nature where a planet becomes good or bad depending on the house it own.
I have written a article on it where lordships are explained properly.
For sake of this article Mahadasha Lord Mars is benefic for following ascendants:
- Aries.
- Cancer.
- Leo.
- Scorpio.
- Sagittarius.
- Pisces.
For rest of the ascendants Mars is a malefic planet though in Ascendants like Taurus, Gemini and Aquarius planet Mars can give good career growth provided Mars is well placed in the Horoscope.
Once you have judged the role of planet Mars here the next step is to see its placement in the Horoscope.
Mars can be placed in own, exalted or in debilitation. If debilitated then check if Necchabhanga is happening or not.
Same way check if Vimshottari mahadasha lord is in Pushkar Navamsha or not.
This will further change the results of the Mars mahadasha.
Or Mars can be placed in trine, kendra or dushtana house and factor also need to be accounted.
You will need to account the placement of mahadasha lord in Navamsha also and based on what area you are investigating on like career then D-10 divisional chart will also need to be consider.
This is the first and major step.
The next step will be checking association of mahadasha lord with other planets.
Association with other functional benefics will be considered as good and in mahadasha of Mars the results will be good.
Association of Mars with functional malefic will deliver bad results or will counter the good results of Mars mahadasha.
Same way you have to judge the condition of antardasha lord and same time see how the antardasha lord is placed in respect to mahadasha lord.
For example here you Venus is antardasha lord and here you will need to see how Venus is placed in relation to Mars.
Placement of Venus in 6th, 8th or 12th house from Mars is not good and can cause issues in significations of Venus.
Above mentioned rules are very basic and there are other factors also which decides the outcome of a Vimshottari Mahadasha.

General Results Of Sun Mahadasha- 6 Years
Sun is a royal, fiery, and authoritative planet. It governs ego, leadership, vitality, father figures, and government systems.
During Sun Mahadasha, its effects become highly visible and can lead to both elevation and downfall, depending on its dignity and placement. The general results of Sun Mahadasha include:
- Gains through father, father-in-law, or paternal relatives, especially if Sun rules the 9th or 10th house
- Government-related benefits, licenses, approvals, or access to people in administrative power
- Appointment in government sectors, police, defense, revenue departments, or leadership roles
- Rise in status through visibility, public work, or media exposure when Sun is in the 10th or 11th house
- Fevers, heat strokes, or inflammatory conditions, especially when Sun is in 6th, 8th, or 12th houses
- Hair loss due to hormonal or pitta imbalance
- Greater focus on agricultural land, cattle, or sun-exposed professions like farming or solar energy
- Skin rashes, boils, or ulcers due to excessive internal heat or anger
- Increase in thirst, restlessness, and physical heat
- Wandering through forest, hills, temples, or mountains especially when linked with the 12th or 9th house
- Foreign travel due to official duty, disputes, or spiritual reasons
- Loss or theft of documents, ID proofs, or official credentials especially with Sun in the 3rd or 12th
- Attraction to gemstones, particularly ruby, and other power-enhancing stones
- Possibility of gaining mantra siddhi or authority in spiritual circles, especially when connected to 5th or 9th houses
- Close association with high-ranking officials, politicians, or CEOs
- Involvement in religious rituals, yajnas, temple donations, or solar worship
- Rise in ambition, arrogance, or ego issues especially if Sun is conjunct Mars, Rahu, or Saturn
- Trouble with superiors or bosses when Sun is weak, combust, or afflicted by malefics
- Punishment, public defamation, or official warnings if Sun is placed in the 8th or 12th and under malefic influence
- Desire for individual identity, rejection of authority, or father-related karmic patterns
The functional nature of Sun varies with the ascendant. For Aries ascendant, Sun becomes a trikona lord and gives powerful rajyogas.
For Libra ascendant, Sun becomes the 11th lord and is also debilitated, often giving ego clashes, failed leadership, or conflicts with father-like figures.
In ascendants ruled by Saturn (Capricorn, Aquarius), Sun can become a functional malefic and lead to harsh ego-based challenges.
Sun Mahadasha also brings karmic outcomes related to pride, ego, and self-expression. If Sun is involved in Amatyakaraka or is linked with Raja Yoga formations, the Mahadasha can bring power, prestige, and government authority.
If linked with Badhaka, Maraka, or placed in Dushtanas, it can cause humiliation, loss of status, or physical ailments.
Conjunctions and aspects further shape the results.
- Sun + Mercury (Budh Aditya Yoga): rise in intellect, speech, writing, or government communication roles
- Sun + Rahu: extreme desire for power, manipulation, or scandal; may rise fast and fall hard
- Sun + Saturn: father-related karma, ego suppression, struggle with authority
- Sun + Mars: police, military, sports leadership; also aggression and legal fights
- Sun + Jupiter: righteous leadership, spiritual authority, respect in society
- Sun + Venus: rise through charm or beauty, but also clashes in relationships and luxuries
Placement in Kendra or Trikona houses gives strength. When exalted in Aries or placed in own sign Leo, Sun gives visible recognition.
When debilitated in Libra, it can bring power struggles, identity confusion, or loss of authority unless supported by Neechabhanga or strong dispositor.
Sun Mahadasha activates the themes of power, visibility, responsibility, and karma with father and authority figures. If Sun is strong and unafflicted, this Dasha brings unmatched leadership and social command.
If weak, afflicted, or placed in enemy signs/houses, it leads to ego issues, downfall, or father-related suffering.
General Results Of Moon Mahadasha- 10 Years
Just like the Sun, Moon is also a royal planet. But unlike Sun, Moon is a natural benefic and works more softly.
In Vimshottari Mahadasha, Moon gives good results when it is strong especially when it is waxing (moving from new moon to full moon), placed in a friendly or own sign, and free from affliction.
General results seen during Moon Mahadasha include:
- Increase in hair growth or thickness

- Purchase or gift of new clothes, accessories, and home items
- Improved bonding with mother or emotional support from maternal side

- Position in government, politics, or support roles especially when Moon is linked with 10th or 11th house
- Interest in music, poetry, singing, or soft artistic hobbies

- Quick emotional changes or mood swings, especially when Moon is in dual signs

- Success in professions related to hospitality, education, dairy, water, or beauty
- Trouble in sleep, mind restlessness, or emotional dependence when Moon is weak
- Fluid retention, water-related issues, or chest/lung problems in case of affliction
- Financial gains through mother’s property or ancestral home if Moon rules the 4th house
- Chances of court cases or mental pressure if Moon is in 6th, 8th, or 12th under malefic influence
The results of Moon Mahadasha will change depending on the house it rules and where it is placed.
For Aries ascendant, Moon becomes the 4th lord and gives domestic comfort and land/property gains when strong.
For Capricorn ascendant, Moon becomes the 7th lord and can give emotional ups and downs in marriage, especially if placed in a watery or dual sign.
If Moon is in Kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th) or Trikona (5th, 9th) and well-supported, this Mahadasha gives peace, wealth, and public image.
But if Moon is in Dushtana houses (6th, 8th, 12th), or conjunct with Saturn, Rahu, or Ketu, it can give instability in mental health, emotional confusion, or health issues.
Conjunctions also shape the results:
- Moon + Jupiter: emotional wisdom, popularity, support from teachers or elders
- Moon + Venus: success in arts, beauty, love life, but sometimes overindulgence
- Moon + Saturn: mental pressure, mother’s health issues, delay in peace

If exalted in Taurus or placed in Cancer, Moon Mahadasha gives emotional stability, comfort, and strong support from the public or masses.
Overall, Moon Mahadasha activates themes of mind, emotions, comfort, mother, and routine life. Its results depend completely on how Moon is placed, which house it rules, and which planets it is associated with.
General Results Of Mars Mahadasha-7 Years
Mars is a natural malefic and tends to create instability unless it is well-placed or functions as a Yogakaraka in the horoscope.
For many ascendants, Mars Mahadasha brings challenges related to aggression, accidents, and restlessness.
It gives the best results when it rules good houses or is involved in Rajyoga or Dhan yoga combinations.
Otherwise, it often activates conflict, injury, or health-related disturbances.
Common results during Mars Vimshottari Mahadasha include:
- Hair loss due to heat in the body or hormonal imbalance
- Rise in blood pressure or other pitta-related health issues
- Sudden increase in anger, frustration, or impulsive reactions
- Tension in marriage or physical separation from spouse especially if Mars is in the 7th or 8th house
- Land purchases, involvement in real estate, or disputes related to property
- Injuries from sharp objects, weapons, sports, or risky behavior
- Theft, burglary, or security-related concerns in home when Mars is in 4th or 12th
- Sudden craving for meat, alcohol, or tamasic food depending on placement and sign
- Hyperactive or restless behavior, especially in Mars-Mercury or Mars-Rahu periods
- Accidents, surgeries, or blood loss especially when Mars is conjunct Saturn, Rahu, or in the 8th house
- Financial misfortunes due to impulsive decisions, ego clashes, or legal battles
- Conflict with brothers, male friends, or co-workers if Mars rules the 3rd or 11th house
- Frequent involvement in arguments, physical fights, or dominance struggles
- Losses due to haste, ego, or forceful approach especially when Mars is in fiery signs
- Legal issues, police involvement, or fines in Mars-Rahu or Mars-Saturn periods
If Mars is exalted in Capricorn, placed in own signs Aries or Scorpio, or functions as a Yogakaraka (like for Cancer or Leo ascendants), this Mahadasha can bring success in sports, defense, engineering, construction, or land-related work.
In such cases, Mars gives high energy, courage, and victory over enemies.
But if Mars is debilitated in Cancer or placed in 6th, 8th, or 12th houses without support, it creates health issues, loss through aggression, and accidents.
For Libra and Taurus ascendants, Mars becomes a functional malefic and gives problems in relationships and personal peace. For Cancer and Leo ascendants, Mars becomes a Yogakaraka and can give property, authority, and gains through discipline.
Conjunctions also play a major role:
- Mars + Rahu: accidents, surgeries, legal troubles, high ambition
- Mars + Saturn: delay, struggle, harsh experiences, bone injuries
- Mars + Moon: blood pressure issues, aggression, emotional bursts
- Mars + Venus: passion, relationship issues, physical attraction, or disputes
- Mars + Mercury: arguments, overthinking, mental pressure, or risk-taking behavior
- Mars + Jupiter: success in discipline, land, or law fields if dignified
Mars Mahadasha activates the physical body, courage, aggression, and survival instincts. Its results will change depending on the house it rules, the houses it is placed in, and the dignity of Mars in the chart.
If supported by benefic aspects or strong Navamsa placement, Mars can give strength, leadership, and bold success.
If afflicted, it can damage peace, health, and relationships.
General Results Of Mercury Mahadasha- 17 Years
Mercury is a natural benefic and gives generally auspicious results during its Vimshottari Mahadasha.
It is fast-moving, sharp, and intelligent by nature.
Mercury is also sensitive and shows affliction quickly when conjunct or aspected by malefics.

- Curiosity, restlessness, or habit of overthinking when Mercury is in dual signs or under stress
Negative results can show up when Mercury is afflicted by Rahu, Ketu, Mars, or Saturn, or when it is combust by the Sun.
In such cases:
- Speech may become sharp, sarcastic, or erratic
- Confusion, indecisiveness, or nervous system issues can arise
- Health problems related to skin, nerves, lungs, or intestines may develop
- Trouble in communication, misunderstandings, or lying tendencies
- Relationship issues due to immaturity or overanalysis
- Sudden financial losses due to overconfidence or risky decisions
- Disturbed sleep, racing thoughts, or anxiety when Mercury is in 6th, 8th, or 12th house
- Trouble with documentation, contracts, or data loss when Mercury is conjunct malefics
For Virgo and Gemini ascendants, Mercury becomes the ascendant lord and gives overall improvement in all areas especially education, speech, travel, and finance.
For Capricorn and Aquarius ascendants, Mercury rules the 6th and 8th houses respectively and can give mixed or difficult results if placed poorly.
Conjunctions shape the outcome further:
- Mercury + Jupiter: wise communication, balanced mind, good for teaching
- Mercury + Venus: charm in speech, artistic skills, strong writing ability
- Mercury + Rahu: manipulative speech, sharp mind, but tendency for deceit or shortcuts
- Mercury + Mars: arguments, aggressive communication, quick decisions
- Mercury + Moon: mood-based thinking, fast emotional shifts
- Mercury + Saturn: slow thinking, overanalysis, cautious approach in decisions
If Mercury is exalted in Virgo or placed in Gemini, this Mahadasha supports career, learning, and material gains.
If it is debilitated in Pisces, combust, or placed in Dusthana houses under malefic influence, it can lead to instability in thoughts, communication problems, and financial errors.
General Results Of Jupiter Mahadasha- 16 Years
Jupiter is the biggest natural benefic in astrology. It rules wisdom, wealth, dharma, and expansion. Jupiter Mahadasha generally brings growth and prosperity, but the actual results depend on its placement, house ownership, conjunctions, and strength in the chart.
If Jupiter is well-placed and functions as a benefic, this Mahadasha can bring major life improvements.
But if afflicted or malefic by function, it can cause confusion, losses, or problems in judgment.
Common results during Jupiter Vimshottari Mahadasha include:
- Increase in wealth through stable income sources, business expansion, or inheritance
- Religious travel to temples, pilgrimages, or holy sites, especially when Jupiter links with 9th or 12th house
- Participation in auspicious events like marriage, childbirth, or naming ceremonies
- Weight gain, especially when Jupiter is placed in 1st or 6th house or associated with Moon or Venus
- Promotion in job, rise in rank, or recognition in teaching, legal, financial, or spiritual fields
- Foreign travel or long-distance journeys for education, preaching, or religious duties
- Interest in staying in ashrams, gurukuls, or isolated places for knowledge or peace
- Peaceful married life, especially when Jupiter is well-placed in 2nd, 7th, or 11th house
- Gains through teaching, consulting, finance, or any dharma-based career
- Access to higher education, degree courses, or scholarship opportunities
- Respect from society, role as guide, mentor, or spiritual advisor if Jupiter is in Kendra or Trikona
- Stable family life and harmony with elders
- Gains from father, gurus, or advisors—especially when Jupiter is linked to the 9th house
- Increased charity, donations, and association with spiritual communities
Negative results show up when Jupiter is debilitated (in Capricorn), combust, or afflicted by malefics like Rahu, Saturn, or Mars:
- Wrong judgment, false optimism, or trusting the wrong people
- Weight gain leading to health issues like liver problems, diabetes, or cholesterol
- Ego related to knowledge, causing conflict with mentors or elders
- Financial losses due to blind faith or lack of proper planning
- Problems in marriage if Jupiter is 7th lord and placed in 6th, 8th, or 12th house
- Failure in higher education or legal disputes in Jupiter-Rahu or Jupiter-Saturn periods
- Disrespect from society, loss of credibility, or hypocrisy in spiritual matters
Jupiter gives the best results when it rules or is placed in dharma houses (1st, 5th, 9th) or wealth-giving houses (2nd, 11th). For Cancer, Leo, and Aries ascendants, Jupiter generally behaves benefically.
But for Taurus or Libra ascendants, where it rules the 6th or 8th house, results can be mixed or challenging.
Conjunctions matter:
- Jupiter + Moon (Gajakesari Yoga): wealth, fame, public respect
- Jupiter + Venus: material comfort and luxury, but also overindulgence
- Jupiter + Rahu: desire for shortcut spirituality, blind faith, or fake gurus
- Jupiter + Saturn: slow but stable growth, deep karmic lessons
- Jupiter + Mars: rise in leadership, confidence, legal success
- Jupiter + Mercury: sharp learning, business skills, finance gains
Jupiter Mahadasha is a time of expansion. Whether it leads to real progress or inflated mistakes depends on how well-placed Jupiter is in the natal chart.

- Government job, permanent role, or high position in company
- Purchase of land, property, or construction of home
- Improved discipline, focus, and long-term planning
- Gains through mining, metals, oil, machinery, or legal fields
- Success in technical or engineering roles

For Taurus and Libra ascendants, Saturn becomes a Yogakaraka and can give some of the best results during its Mahadasha.
For Leo or Cancer ascendants, Saturn acts as a functional malefic and brings more stress unless well-placed or supported by strong Jupiter or Venus.
Saturn Mahadasha tests patience. If the planet is strong, this period builds life from the ground up. If weak or afflicted, it can bring fear, delay, and heavy responsibilities with little peace.

But if Rahu is placed in the 6th, 8th, or 12th house, or conjunct with Saturn, Mars, or Ketu, it can give health issues, betrayal, losses, or hidden enemies.
For Gemini, Virgo, Taurus, and Aquarius ascendants, Rahu can give good results if placed well. For Cancer, Leo, or Scorpio ascendants, Rahu can act more destructively unless supported by strong house lords.

- Disconnection or arguments within the family, especially when Ketu is in the 2nd or 4th house
- Frequent or unnecessary travels, often without a clear purpose or result
- Confusion, detachment, or loss of direction during certain periods of the Mahadasha
- Isolation from social groups or friends
- Deep interest in ancient scriptures, past life patterns, or metaphysical subjects
- Experiences that feel out of control or difficult to explain
- Sudden loss of interest in career, relationships, or material goals
- Results that feel karmic, unexplained, or beyond practical logic
Ketu gives the best results when it is placed in signs ruled by Jupiter (Sagittarius, Pisces) or in houses like the 9th, 12th, or 5th where detachment and spiritual growth are welcomed.
If placed in 2nd, 4th, 7th, or 10th house, it may cause confusion, instability, or separation in those areas.
When afflicted or conjunct with Saturn, Mars, or Rahu can give:
- Accidents, sudden losses, or surgeries
- Nervous system disorders or strange physical symptoms
- Misunderstandings due to unclear communication
- Isolation in marriage, separation, or lack of emotional connection
Ketu behaves differently for each ascendant:
- For Scorpio and Sagittarius ascendants, Ketu can give spiritual strength and mental detachment
- For Taurus or Leo ascendants, Ketu in key houses often causes losses, confusion, or instability
- For Pisces or Cancer ascendants, if placed in the 9th or 12th, Ketu Mahadasha may support inner growth or wisdom
The results of all Vimshottari Mahadashas depend entirely on individual chart factors like house placement, sign, aspects, conjunctions, and strength of the planet in divisional charts.
So while the above gives a general idea of what each Mahadasha can bring, no two horoscopes give the same results.
This is why it’s important to learn how to properly analyze the Dasha system before predicting outcomes.
General Results Of Venus Mahadasha- 20 Years
Venus is the second most benefic planet in Vedic astrology and also has the longest Mahadasha in the Vimshottari system. It rules love, luxury, beauty, comfort, and material pleasure.
If Venus is strong, well-placed, and functions as a benefic in the chart, this Mahadasha can bring steady enjoyment and life improvements.
If Venus is afflicted or placed in Dusthana houses, the opposite results can show up.
General results seen during Venus Mahadasha include:
- Marriage or long-term relationship, especially when Venus is in 7th or 2nd house
- Increase in libido, physical desires, or attraction toward sensual pleasures
- Childbirth or conception of children when Venus is linked with 5th or 9th house
- Steady rise in income, savings, or gain of valuables and jewelry
- Improvement in looks, skin, fashion sense, or overall appearance
- Rise in social status, charm, or influence especially when Venus is in Kendra or Trikona
- Travel for leisure, romantic getaways, or visits to luxurious places
- Enjoyment of good food, entertainment, music, or other comforts
- Interest and progress in creative education arts, music, design, or media
- Peaceful and harmonious married life if Venus is placed well and not afflicted
- Gains through women, entertainment industry, design, or luxury business
- Purchase of vehicles, home décor, clothes, and other comfort-related items
- Attraction to perfumes, makeup, fine arts, or luxury gadgets
- Increased romantic or emotional involvement in life
- Support from female relatives, spouse, or friends
- Success in acting, modeling, fashion, or music fields
- Desire to live comfortably and avoid hard physical labor
If Venus is weak, debilitated (in Virgo), combust, or afflicted by malefics like Mars, Rahu, or Saturn, then the Mahadasha may bring:
- Breakups, failed love affairs, or delays in marriage
- Overindulgence in food, sex, or luxuries leading to health issues
- Financial waste, overspending, or dependency on others
- Skin problems, reproductive issues, or hormonal imbalance
- Conflicts with spouse, emotional dissatisfaction, or infidelity
- Failure in creative work or artistic fields
- Emotional instability or attachment issues if Venus is in watery signs
For Taurus and Libra ascendants, Venus becomes the Lagna lord and generally gives good results.
For Capricorn and Aquarius ascendants, Venus is a Yogakaraka and can bring powerful gains.
But for Virgo or Aries ascendants, Venus often causes instability in relationships or confusion in love unless supported by other benefic planets.
Conjunctions also modify the results:
- Venus + Mercury: strong creative skills, speech charm, good for writing and music
- Venus + Moon: romantic nature, emotional depth, beauty gains
- Venus + Mars: passion, attraction, relationship turbulence
- Venus + Saturn: late marriage, stable but serious relationships, gains through hard work
- Venus + Rahu: obsession with beauty, fame through media, sudden ups and downs in love
- Venus + Jupiter: spiritual love, marriage through guidance, sometimes conflict in values
Venus Mahadasha activates the themes of comfort, connection, pleasure, and material satisfaction. Whether it brings lasting peace or temporary highs depends on how Venus is placed and supported in the chart.
What Is Antardasha In Vimshottari Mahadasha System?
In above paragraph I mentioned a term antardasha and in Vimshottari Dasha system it is a major factor which helps us to predict events.
Antardasha is further breakup of any mahadasha in Vimshottari dasha system.
With in a Mahadasha there will be 9 antardasha where first antardasha will belong to the lord of the mahadasha lord itself.
The concert of antardasha in Vimshottari dasha system brings a dynamic factor where one can use it to predict events.
Only mahadasha can't give much idea, it is the antardasha which gives further clues.
I will give an example to explain this statement.
Look at the Horoscope given below and the native is running Jupiter Mahadasha.
Jupiter is 5th lord which means within Jupiter Mahadasha a child will be born.
But which part of this mahadasha will bring a child to the native.
Answer lies to antardasha here, see that Mars is placed in the 5th house and same time Moon is also aspecting the 5th house from the 11th house.
This means that antardasha of Mars and Moon can give childbirth.
This is just a minor example of use of antardasha, it is more vast and complicated than this.
How To Calculate Duration Of Antardasha
The duration of antardasha are fixed just like period of mahadasha and is calculated by following formula.
Vimshottari period of mahadasha lord multiply Vimshottari period of antardasha lord/ 120
Here 120 is used since the while Vimshottari dasha is of 120 years.
Suppose you want to find antardasha of Moon in mahadasha of Sun.
Then here is how you will do it:
You will multiply the Vimshottari dasha period allotted to planet Sun which is 6 years to Vimshottari dasha period allotted to planet Moon which is 10 years and divide it by 120.
6*10/120= .5 months which means 6 months.
Same way you can apply this formula to find antardasha period of all planets.
